The K70. NSU Ro80's little sister. Because that's what this actually is: An NSU (Ro for Rotary, K for Kolben - pistons). But being bought by VW made this being marketed as a VW.

Well yes, this thing was originally developed by NSU to be a more conventional alternative to the Ro80. NSU got bought by VW in 1969 and it was then sold as a VW, therefore becoming the first water-cooled, front engined VW.
